I can hardly believe that my 26th birthday is tomorrow! I never thought this day would come when I was a teenager, but now I feel like I'm hurtling faster and faster toward 30. It's exciting but very scary! I can't stand the thought of wrinkles and sagging — totally inevitable, I know — but there are definitely positives to getting older, like perspective and maturity. I am more patient and empathetic than I have ever been, while unwarranted criticism and hateful comments don't bother me as much. See, once you grow comfortable with your identity and gain confidence that does not stem from your physical appearance or material things, something magical happens.
People's opinions do not matter unless you want them to. That doesn't mean I am not a victim of body shaming and online bullying or harassment and yes, it can be offensive and painful (Ã la the moving Blogilates video, very powerful message). Seeing this sort of petty, damaging and negative online behavior on a daily basis, however, should inspire us all to be kinder, more thoughtful human beings. I truly believe in the power of karma, and I strive to improve my character, strengthen my resolve, maintain my values and overall, live a better life every day. Exercise your brain and heart, too! I rarely get personal, but I figured today would be an appropriate time to open up and share this message. I wish everyone a very happy birthday — regardless of where yours falls this year — and hope that you find peace, success, and meaning! xo

Many happy early returns of the day Rae to you and your twin sister!! I can't believe you're turning 26! you guys are babies in my eyes. I sincerely hope you both have a lovely birthday and that you pamper yourselves and let others spoil you because it is YOUR day! I know you are worried about turning 30, worried about the sagging and the wrinkles, it is very understandable! However, if there is one thing I can say that puts us asians at an advantage from the rest is that because we are asian, we wrinkle less and we sag less, if at all! Furthermore, I can say that given the way that you take care of your skin, I think that you'll look even better when you hit the 30 mark.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I am so sorry for all the flack you've gotten about your beauty in the past, things were so different before the Internet and the anonymity that it brought. People don't necessarily realize how powerful words can be and the repercussions that occur. I hope that no matter what, you know that we are so grateful for your dedication, for your beauty, and for all that you do. My wallet may be thinner thanks to your reviews, haha, but my heart is definitely fuller and happier for it. (sorry for the cheesinesss...)
Thank you so much!! Yes, it doesn't help that we look so young still (especially without makeup lol). My sister has a baby, and she changed so much after childbirth! It's amazing but intimidating, too. I'm in no way ready for that stage, but I do love finding strength and a different kind of self-esteem as I age. And you are always so kind. Thank you so much for that because it really means a lot! I think it's mostly young girls and young women without the right kind of guidance who feel they need to say such awful things online. How some behaves anonymously speaks volumes of their character, so I don't worry about it any more. I am just trying to do my best to share fabulous products and create beautiful content in my little space on the web. So again, thanks for the cheesiness! You make it all worth it :)
