Make Up Forever Aqua Cream in 5 Peach Review, Photos, Swatches

I'll be the first to admit I'm not Makeup Forever's biggest fan. But do I prefer the Sephora exclusive line to MAC? Yes. Makeup Forever foundations are affordable and work well with my combination skin but I haven't been as impressed as others seem to have been with their concealers or their color make-up. The Aqua Creams, however, are a different story.

I dislike cream textures with too much slip because they cause my skin to look excessively oily. They tend to migrate easily, and because I rarely ever touch-up my make-up, it's too much of a hassle to bother with. The texture of the Makeup Forever Aqua Creams, however, is fairly dry. This makes them a little more difficult to spread but much longer-lasting on the skin. These are touted as waterproof, after all! I don't wear 5 on my cheeks often but when I do, I use the Sigma Angled Kabuki F84 to apply and I love that the color doesn't budge, even with 5 hours of wear.

5 is a peachy pink with gold flecks, perfect for application on the cheeks or lips. It leans strongly peach, much more so than the NARS Orgasm Multiple, but it has a similar feel because of the golden flecks.

For the perfect high-shine, shimmering peach lip, I like to apply my Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick in 9, a dark brick-based peach, and then top it with this Aqua Cream. I prefer to use my index finger to dab it on but you can use a brush. [If you use a finger, make sure it's clean and don't double dip to keep your make-up fresh!] Then I top the combination with my Chanel Glossimer in Galactic for moisture and extra shine. I'll wear the lip in my Favorites video this month so you can see the trio in action.

Bottom Line: If this is the peach shade you've been looking for, it's a wonderful multi-tasking product that is very much worth the $22 price tag.

Edward Bess Rose Demure Ultra Slick Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

So now that I've made it clear how much I love Edward Bess lip products, here's another review! Here we have his newly packaged lipstick in Rose Demure. My first impression was that it looked too dark in the tube but it's actually much lighter when on my lips, just as with my Forbidden Flower! The formula is still as creamy, moisturizing and pigmented as before. Every time I smell the EB signature fig scent, I fall more in love with it. How that's possible, I can't even begin to explain. I wore this in one of my recent videos, which you can view here, paired with his French Lace Deep Shine Gloss if you'd like to see it in action. It's my favorite way to wear Rose Demure!

Rose Demure is indeed a 'demure' shade. Looking for a lady-like lipstick that doesn't age your face? This is it. Rose Demure adds a bit of color to my face but it's rather neutral, making it an easy color for me to reach for. It coordinates with all blush shades with the exception of oranges/peaches. Generally, I am not a fan of lipsticks that bring out the mauve in my natural lip color but this is just pink enough that it doesn't scare me off. In that respect, it reminds me of NARS Catfight, though the two colors aren't similar - just the vibe is.

Initially, I wasn't a fan of the revamped packaging. The plastic feels excessively lightweight but it's held up well over my travels and at least there isn't any rubbing against the side of the bullet! I'm very gentle with my lipsticks and have only ever broken one but the former packing of the Ultra Slick lipsticks, in regards to rubbing at least, is probably the worst I've ever encountered. I loved the sleek, round metal tube but the rubbing, wow. The lipstick below is EB's Forbidden Flower, used less than a dozen times. I still love the color but the packaging issue makes me hesitant to use it often.

As you can see, my Rose Demure is in mint condition. I've used it just as much as I have used Forbidden Flower, so I now prefer the revamped packaging! And unfortunately, I haven't had the time to snap a lip swatch but this is the color swiped once across the back of my hand.

Bottom Line: Rose Demure is an unexpected love. It's is a universally flattering color so give it a try!
Edward Bess Ultra Slick lipsticks can be purchased for $32 through his website, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman.

YSL Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils in Deep Black and Sea Black Review, Photos, Swatches

The one and only eyeliner I am faithful to is Lancome's Artliner, a liquid formula with a smooth felt tip applicator. YSL's newest Effet Faux Cils cream liners, however, are officially my favorite cream eye liners.

Clinique's cream liner is smooth, long-lasting, and very affordable. Shu Uemura's wears very well on my eyes but you must order online through their website. This new YSL formula is most similar to SU's, if case you were curious. Bobbi Brown's is excellent for the lids but a little too creamy for the waterline. MAC's gel liner is also very popular and even though it's not a cream, I still consider gel and cream liners as part of the same category. I find that MAC's gel formula is a little better for oily lids, which I do not have, but the YSL Effet Faux Cils cream liner is the creme of the crop. The texture is a little more dense and incredibly pigmented. I like my black liners to be jet black! The Effet Faux Cils cream liners dry down firmly (but not uncomfortably so) and last all day on my slightly hooded eyes. For the price, however, Clinique takes the cake.

These liners are clearly richly pigmented, right? The consistency of your lines will be noticeably more matte in finish. This bodes better for those with oily lids and for those who simply do not prefer glossy eyeliner. The Lancome Artliner has a very glossy finish, which I love, but it's nice to mix it up once in a while. I used the black one in my YSL Holiday 2011 Tutorial so you'll be able to see it in action next week!

Bottom Line: YSL did a great job with these liners and I will definitely purchase the brown one.

Edward Bess French Lace Deep Shine Lip Gloss Review, Photos, Swatches

Edward Bess Deep Shine Lip Glosses are my holy grail lip glosses. They smell delicious, like real figs, and they make my lips look so full! No stinging here, though. It's all just a beautiful illusion. French Lace, just like my other EB First Kiss gloss pictured above, lasts for at least 4 hours through eating and drinking. And to top it off, the formula does not cause my lips to peel! *jump for joy* Most of you know by now how sensitive my lips are so this is big news.

The only mildly irritating packaging issue is that the doe foot applicator yields very little product. I have to dip the applicator twice, at least, into the tube to achieve an even coat of gloss on my lips. Otherwise, the gloss is perfection. I wish I had a lip swatch to show you but it isn't essential because French Lace does not look like much on my bare lips. It tones down the mauve in my natural lip color, adding a bit of milkiness and a hint of pink. It's a My-Lips-But-Better gloss but I like it best when paired with Edward Bess Rose Demure Ultra Slick Lipstick.

Bottom Line: I want to own EVERY SINGLE Deep Shine gloss! They're really that good. Edward Bess can be purchased through his website, Neiman Marcus, or Bergdorf Goodman.

Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge Correcteur Concealers in Fraise/Cool and Medium Review, Photos, Swatches

I've never worn concealer regularly.. until now. I do not even wear base make-up, much less any kind of make-up, daily. I usually apply my skin care, curl my eyelashes, and call it a day. I prefer to allow my skin to breathe when I am not filming a tutorial or testing a new product but these Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge Correcteur concealers have managed to change my stance on concealer. I'd rarely use concealer, even in my tutorials, instead opting for a highlighter like YSL's Touche Eclat. But now I notice and appreciate the significant difference in how much brighter and smoother my complexion looks when I use the PV concealers, which is why I now use them every time I do choose wear a base.

My stand-by concealers are Dior Sculpt in 002 and Cle de Peau Concealer in Beige but we'll use the similarly packaged CdP stick concealer to compare quality and performance. I actually gave my Cle de Peau concealer to my grandmother the other day because I feel the formula of the PV concealer is that good. The PV concealer lasts for 6 hours and does not migrate into the fine lines of my eyes the way the updated formula of the CdP concealer does. My grandmother's eyes are oily so it works better for her but my eyes are extremely dry so I prefer the slightly more moisturizing formula of the PV. In the photo below, you see Fraise/Cool on the left and Medium on the right.

I use Fraise/Cool directly beneath the eyes and a touch of Medium to cover the patchy red and brown hyperpigmentation directly below the orbital bones. I have not used it long enough to see substantial effects of the concealer's retinol and other skincare bonuses, however, but my fine lines are less noticeable and the concealer does seem to boost the effectiveness of my Jeune d'Age Organics moisturizing eye cream, which is a must-have for dry eyes. I apply a layer of eye cream and wait for it to dry first. Then I warm up the concealer against my fingertip and dab it on, smoothing it out with my Le Metier de Beaute concealer brush.

Conclusion: Yes, these LMdB Peau Vierge concealers are very expensive but the price is justified considering the outstanding pigmentation and performance. I will definitely be repurchasing both Fraise and Medium and can't wait to use them in conjunction with my Peau Vierge Tinted Treatment in Shade 2 when it arrives next week!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Locavore Review, Photos, Swatches

I'm not one to buy nail polish sight unseen. I just don't do it! But I recently took the plunge for Zoya so I figured I should take the plunge for the brand I've really been coveting, Rescue Beauty Lounge [only available online here]. I don't mind paying shipping from RBL because they package their nail polishes well, neatly and efficiently in boxes and bubble wrap. Zoya, on the other hand, charges for shipping but sends out my order hastily wrapped in linty cushion, covered several times over in clear packing tape that made the lint difficult to cut through. If you're going to overcharge me for USPS shipping, I expect bubble wrap - nothing that causes a mess or a hassle.

Anyway, that's my little packaging rant. I'm sorry if you think I'm being harsh but I like to get my money's worth at all times, even when it comes to shipping. I'd buy Zoya again if I see any covetable colors at Ulta but I will avoid Zoya's subpar shipping and handling from now on.

Thankfully, this review writes itself. Locavore is a limited edition nail polish from Rescue Beauty Lounge and it's drop-dead gorgeous. It wears terribly without a base coat, one day tops before chipping occurs, but when paired with Deborah Lippmann's Ridge Filler, it lasts one week. Not bad! Just try to avoid very hot showers, as that makes the polish peel off completely. Glitters can be difficult and as unique and beautiful as this color is, Locavore suffers from the usual downfalls of glitter nail polish.

More on the color: Green, fuchsia, and turquoise glitters are suspended in a clear base but this festive color is opaque in two coats. The formula is thicker than any of my other glitter polishes but that's due to the number of microshimmers in the polish. Believe me, that's a good thing. [The only formula that comes close is Butter London's newest Holiday polish, The Black Knight, which is also gorgeous and memorable, but it chips within hours of application!]

In sunlight, to show the facets of the polish

Bottom Line: I don't have anything else like it so make sure you buy it before it sells out again!

Shiseido 'Perfect' Foundation Brush Review, Photos

I know, I know.. how could I not have tried this brush sooner? It was a smashing success with beauty editors even before its public launch and I see can why! It's definitely among my top 5 favorite foundation brushes and yields very similar results to Sigma's famous F80. Both boast densely-packed brush heads with carefully placed, soft synthetic bristles. The F80 gives me more of an airbrushed finish with rarely any streaking so I do prefer it, but the Shiseido Perfection Foundation brush comes pretty darn close. I dab a pea-sized amount of the liquid foundation over the center of my face, most carefully around the orbital bone and around my nose, and then smooth the foundation outward to my forehead and sides of the face. I also go back and dab a smidge extra on the tops of my cheeks to cover my redness since I don't use concealer regularly.

You really can use this brush with all foundation formulas - just make sure you wash and dry between powder, liquid, or cream foundations. I personally prefer using this brush with liquid foundations because I use a MAC 187 for powders and the CoverFX 160 for creams.

The angled slant of the bristles makes it easy to maneuver through the contours of the nose, eyes, and mouth and I actually prefer the shorter handle! Some have complained at how small the brush is but I find that it offers more control and it's much easier to store in my travel bag.

I wish I had taken more photos for size comparison but this Sigma travel/short-handled brush from the London kit was the only one I had on hand. Still, the Shiseido brush is much smaller!

Bottom Line: This may be the best affordable, most versatile foundation brush on the market right now and it's a must-have in my book!

Butter London Blagger Review, Photos, Swatches

There are few Butter London polishes that I think are worthy of the $14 price tag but Blagger has captured my heart. I had been looking for an opaque, bright blue cream that wouldn't darken against my currently medium skin tone yet all the similar colors I had tried previously from other brands were shimmers, not creams. When I saw Ingrid tweeting about it, however, I knew I had to try it!

Blagger is perfect in two coats, and unlike some of my other BL polishes, it doesn't chip! There was some minor tip wear but that's normal. I didn't use a base coat and only added BL's Hardwear topcoat in the photos seen here in this post. I love how rich and vivid the blue hue is, don't you?

Bottom Line: I love it and it's one of my Top 3 Butter London nail polishes!

P.S. I'm sorry I haven't reviewed the BL Holiday colors yet. Soon, I promise!

Neutral Cut Crease Tutorial Product List and Video Details

My first cut crease eye tutorial! This technique is best for hooded eyes that need some lift and it's also great for those looking for a way to dramatize and spice up their make-up routine. I admit I am a little rusty at it since it has been years, literally, since I last donned this look but I still hope you enjoy the tutorial! I also didn't blend out the sketch line, though I generally would, so you could better gage the effect of the cut crease technique. The more you darken the area where you cut the crease, the more impact the look will have!

*Note: I had already applied my D&G Powder Foundation and Shu Uemura Brow Pencil earlier so that is why the foundation and brow footage is not included.

Products Used in the Tutorial:
MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
Laura Mercier Eyeshadow in Vanilla Nuts with LM Angled Eye Color Brush
Urban Decay Naked Palette - Virgin, Smog, Darkhorse with dual-ended Zero & Whiskey 24/7 Pencil
Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eyeliner in Ebony from Sephora
