Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayons Review, Photos, Swatches [Abstract, Avant Garde, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo]

Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayons ($24 USD each) are available in five beautiful, wearable colors.   These highly pigmented, blendable crayons can be applied across the eyelids or smudged among the lash lines for a sophisticated smoky eye. These are versatile cream shadows since they can be paired with each other or with powder eyeshadows. Check out the shade break downs and swatches after the jump!

Packaged in retractable deep brown plastic, the casing is most reminiscent of Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Sticks. I personally find this to be the most ideal packaging for cream eyeshadows since it is travel-friendly and the most effective way to apply color to my lids.

Jouer's Crème Eyeshadow formula is fast-drying, one of the fastest drying products I have used. This means you must blend quickly before the product sets. These are touted as waterproof, paraben-free, dermatologist-tested, and crease-resistant, but I highly recommend using a base underneath all of these eyeshadow crayons for 8-hour, creaseless wear. I like to use my By Terry Eye Primer or NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base. Top with a matching powder eyeshadow for even longer wear!

The swatches to the left were taken under artificial light while the swatches to the right were taken outdoors in natural light. 

ABSTRACT -- This deep charcoal can be built up to a deep black as shown above. It can be blended out to a silvery charcoal as it appears in the tube. This is my least favorite because it did not blend out as evenly as the other shades, though it does have the best range in terms of color build up. Abstract is ideal for those that love a messy smoky eye.

AVANT GARDE -- This pigmented cobalt navy is super rich and flirty. I like to wear this on my lids when I am feeling more bold. It is brighter and more pigmented than I expected it be, since I expected a dark navy from the tube. Note: when worn on the eyes, it does pull more navy blue than in the swatches. 

RENAISSANCE -- This warm purple strongly leans mauve. I feel this color reminds me most of Dior's Stylish Move eyeshadow quint (one of my favorites) since the palette is the perfect balance of mauves and purples. Renaissance would make a great base for Stylish Move, but it isn't a color that I would wear alone.

BAROQUE -- This medium brown is the best lid color of the five since it is so natural and smooth in finish. Neutral lovers and makeup novices alike will appreciate how well this lasts on the lid. It also blends beautifully and is the most crease-free without an eyeshadow primer underneath. 

ROCOCO -- This pale champagne is perfect for the "panda" or "puffy" eye trend that is currently popular in Asia. I line the inner corners of my eyes and my lower lashlines for extra brightness. I find myself reaching for Rococo most often since it is easy to wear. It also looks great on the eyelids paired with Baroque in the outer corner.

All of these are shimmery, though the finishes are not quite identical. Abstract is the most shimmery, with individually suspended silver and blue glitter particles visible on the eye. Avant Garde and Renaissance are most true to the official description, pearly shimmers. Baroque is slightly more frosty, while Rococo is the most sheerest but most metallic.
