YSL La Laque Couture in Rose Scabiosa #48 Nail Polish Review, Photos, Swatches

YSL's Spring 2014 "Flower Crush" Rose Scabiosa ($25 USD) is my first creme nail polish from the reformulated La Laque Couture nail polish collection. I generally prefer the juicy, glossy finishes of Chanel's Le Vernis, but I couldn't resist this unique bubblegum pink. It is not a shade of pink I generally gravitate towards, but my sister managed to persuade me, raving about the formula. This Spring release is as phenomenal as she claimed, as Rose Scabiosa is unlike some of the heavier or chalkier YSL cream finishes I have tried in the past. Check out the comparisons and more swatches after the jump!

Rose Scabiosa is a vibrant, cool-toned medium pink that provides full coverage in two coats. I do not own anything like it! It also levels beautifully, and because the tapered brush fans out to fit perfectly against my cuticles, only two strokes are required for each coat. According to YSL, the nail lacquer perfectly adheres to the brush that pulls the drop instead of pushing it for a flawless and intense result. Whatever the rhetoric, the brush really works for me!

I adore how streak-free this updated formula is. The consistency is ideal for my smaller nail beds, not too runny but not too dense. This allows the polish to dry faster and flow evenly across the nail. I did finish the manicure with Butter London's Hardware Top Coat for an extra shiny finish, but Rose Scabiosa is fairly glossy on its own.

I paired it with Zoya's Pixie Dust in Carter (3 coats), a manicure inspired by ice dance Olympian Meryl Davis' gorgeous costume. Carter's bold blackened purple base allows the fuchsia and purple glitters to contrast beautifully against the more delicate pink. I love this play on textures, lending the manicure a feminine but modern vibe.

The wear time for Rose Scabiosa is average — though I rarely experience chipping — a solid week without any tip wear. I purchased mine from Nordstrom a few weeks ago, but it is backordered online until 2/28/2014. Try Bloomingdale's or Yves Saint Laurent's boutique. Rose Scabiosa is a limited edition and has been selling out at YSL counters in all department stores, so grab yours ASAP!

Bottom Line: I am so thoroughly impressed by Rose Scabiosa that I will be going back for the other YSL Spring La Laque Couture in Rouge Pablo #49, despite owning too many reds to count!

  4. Rose Scabiosa is such a great nail polish shade! I feel like I don't see bubblegum pink nails too often anymore since a lot of people are clinging to the deep, vampy nails trend. It's refreshing to see a bubblegum mani pop up now and then.
