Tom Ford Ombré Eye Color Trio Palettes in She Wolf and In The Pink Review, Photos, Swatches, Comparisons

Tom Ford's new limited edition Ombré Eye Color Trio palettes ($60 USD for .16 oz/4.5g each) masterfully shade and contour the eyes with by playing with contrast and light. The In The Pink trio comes in three sensual pink shades and textures for a contoured nude looks, while the She Wolf trio comes in three smoldering, tone-on-tone gray shades. Check out break down of each color and the swatches after the jump!

The eyeshadow trio in She Wolf consists of a deep black/brown (highly pigmented satin-matte), a light charcoal (smooth pearly texture), and silver lead glitter. In the Pink boasts a pale pink rose (creamy satin-matte), pink champagne (smooth pearly texture), and ballet slipper pink glitter. The sparkling glitter shadows have sheer bases but excellent staying power with very little fallout. Most of my readers are well aware of how much I love my Tom Ford Eye Color Quads, and these new trios are no different. Tom Ford's eyeshadows are perfectly paired with velvety, buildable color.

Tom Ford's Ombré Eye Color Trio in She Wolf is impressive. I nearly gasped when I applied the charcoal brown color to my eyes because it was so pigmented yet soft. The left and middle shades are conservative enough to be worn in a conservative office setting, so long as they are pushed against the lash lines and not blended all the way up the crease. The silver-taupe glitter is lovely, but it is best reserved for nights out. She Wolf, without a doubt, is the best eyeshadow trio in my collection. It blows Dior's eyeshadow trios out of the water, so I can only hope that Tom Ford will add these to the permanent line-up one day.

Tom Ford's Ombré Eye Color Trio in In The Pink is a bit more high maintenance because the colors pull far warmer on my eyes than they appear in the pan. In the Pink may house my favorite three pink eyeshadows, but they are best worn when balanced by a matte brown eyeshadow in the crease or outer corner. That keeps my slightly hooded eyelids from looking puffy. Very tan and dark skin tones should not have this problem, though, since the paler pinks will pop beautifully a deeper canvas. The pink glitter is more subtle than I expected — far more subtle the silver lead in She Wolf — and can be worn daily in the inner corner for those who wear eyeglasses for a bit of brightness.

Now, I do have palettes in my collection that are similar to She Wolf and In the Pink but none that were identical to any of the individual shades. All my Chanel, Burberry, and Dior eyeshadows are too warm to compare to She Wolf. The NARS shades pictured above are either too pink or not pink enough. Still, all of the eyeshadows were swatched below for your viewing pleasure.

In the Pink looks more pink on my arm, true to how it appears in the pan. All three eyeshadows, however, warm up slightly and pull more peach than pink on my lids. I have mentioned before that most pink powders, especially pink blushes, oxidize on my normal yellow-toned skin. In the Pink is no exception, but I actually find this makes the pink-themed palette a little easier to approach. Again, I prefer to wear this trio with a matte brown eyeshadow instead of alone, as I tend to do with She Wolf.

She Wolf, just like In the Pink, pulls warmer on my skin than appears in the pan. The colors all wear more charcoal-taupe than cool-grey. I personally find that this transformative power of She Wolf makes it that much easier to wear on any occasion. The sparkle is very silver but has a beige base that makes it easy to work into any neutral eyeshadow look. None of the Tom Ford glitters that I currently own look like She Wolf's so I highly recommend you give this palette a try. All the eyeshadows from these Ombré Eye Color Trios wear all day on my bare lids, but they apply better over the Tom Ford Eye Primer Duo (reviewed HERE), as one would rightfully expect.

Tom Ford's Fall 2013 Ombre Eye Trios can be found at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Bottom Line: As much as I have a soft spot for the subtle warmth of In the Pink, I believe She Wolf is the better purchase due to the incredible pigmentation and more versatile wear.

  1. I totally would have passed on this palette before but this almost has me convinced. I'd love to get the "Orchid Haze" quad but since "She Wolf" pulls a little warmer I may not "need" both. I have such a love/hate relationship w/ TF's glitter but I think I kind of miss it in "Orchid Haze".

  4. It is really interesting how "berry" She Wolf pulls on your skin. It is almost like another palette. On me it is grey taupe with more of "grey". I wish it would look the same on me as it does on you ;-)

    1. It may be the differences between the lighting of our computer screens because She Wolf does not pull "berry" on my skin! It looks like a brown-charcoal or taupe themed palette on my skin, not nearly as cool-grey as it looks in the pan.

  6. Of all the various autumn products I've purchased, She Wolf and In the Pink are at the very top of the list. When I first saw She Wolf in the promo picks, I thought it would be too dark and intense for my eyes (I'm 69). But, when I actually tried it, I was amazed at how much light and life it brings to my over-all look. As for that "adult glitter", I lightly press a bit on the ball of the moveable lid and it catches the light in a way that is most flattering. It is festive without being garish, it sparkles without being vulgar. I'm sure you younger women can easily rock a full on metallic look, but I'm content with a judicious hint of sparkle on my deep set eyes. Although I think She Wolf is the star of the collection, In the Pink plays a great supporting role for softer or more subtle looks. By the way, Guerlain's eye pencil in Amber Silver is a beautiful compliment to She Wolf when worn beneath the lower lashes.
