Tom Ford Fall 2013 Eye Defining Pen in Deeper Eyeliner Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford finally released a liquid eyeliner, and it is flat out phenomenal. The Eye Defining Pen in Deeper, $55 USD, is a dual-ended eyeliner pen with one of the richest, satin-matte black formulas I have ever encountered. I was hesitant at first since it is not a waterproof formula, which is best for my hooded almond eyes, but my expectations were far exceeded at first swipe. Check out more details and full eye looks after the jump!

The intuitive Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen features a fine calligraphy tip on one end and a pro brush on the other. Both are precise and deliver incredible results. Tom Ford call the color Deeper a 'deep carbon black' and boasts that the liner can produce a spectrum of effects from sleek lines to dramatic wing tips or a full doe eye. I personally favor the heavier wing tipped, cat eye style of eyeliner as you can see below.

I have been dedicated to Lancôme's Artliner in Noir for years, but I get just as much color in a one stroke with Tom Ford's Deeper. It applies more evenly and the fine tips do not dull easily. The brushes do not release too much product at once, making application as controlled as possible. The casing of the pen is longer and heavier, but it is actually perfectly balanced and easy to use.

The Eye Defining Pen is indeed a luxury product with a heavy price tag, but it is also incredibly long wearing over 8 hours of immaculate wear and as deeply black as can be. The formula does not stain the eyelids and washes away with makeup remover or cleansing oil (no pulling or tugging required).

Bottom Line: Liquid liner pros and fanatics absolutely NEED this Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen!

  1. Your eyes are smiling! ^_^ Lovely liner, but like you said hefty price! Do you know if it smudges on oily lids?

    1. If you have hooded oily lids, yes, it will smudge slightly. Best to use primer and a waterproof formula!

  2. Thanks for the review! How does this compare to the Kevin Aucoin liquid liner? Which one would you suggest for someone with super watery eyes?

  5. It is amazing. But the brush gets dry after only less than 10 applications. Do I miss the instruction how to release the ink?

    1. That's so odd! I've used the same one for nearly a year and it's still going strong.. I would just shake the pen vigorously before use and more importantly, store it with the side you use more often downward.

  6. Hi there, I love your Raeviews :) they really help to take the jump when getting high end beauty products. However, I's wondering if you have any tips on how to "revive" both ends since I put the pen on my makeup bag and both caps fell offf and now none work! I'm devastated since first, I can not get TF in my country, and second, the dollar has gone up so much it's almost 40% pricier than it's when I got it. Thank you!!
