Givenchy Le Rouge Lipsticks in 103 Brun Créateur and 104 Brun Cachemire Reviews, Photos, Swatches

The Le Rouge is the newest lipstick offering from Givenchy Beauty, housed in an edgy chrome bullet with genuine black leather. I love the geometric stud detailing in contrast with the soft and supple feeling of the wrapped case in my palm. These lipsticks have a silky fine texture that defines and plumps up the lips, which I know many of you will love. See swatches after the jump!

The Givenchy packaging is absolutely lust-worthy and for $36 piece, they should very well be. I was impressed with the attention to detail that was invested into this new revamp. The silver bullet is lightweight, but it still feels sturdy. Do keep in mind the leather is decorative, so it is delicate and will scratch if not handled with care. I personally do not like to "throw" my lipsticks around, so I have yet to see any noticeable marks.

The Le Rouge formula is intensely pigmented and leaves a semi-matte finish with one swipe. Some full-coverage lipsticks tend to look best when blended in with a lip brush, but the Le Rouge in these two rosy shades look fabulous without much effort. It is not so creamy that it causes the lipstick to slip and slide or feather into lip lines after application, but it makes my lips appear smoother and feel more comfortable because the formula is hydrating. Both of the colors reviewed in this post lasted for a good 5 hours -- 6 when topped with gloss -- and both had a slight staining effect. Also, there is a faint mimosa and black currant fragrance to the lipstick but my nose could not detect it once applied.

FACE SWATCHES: Worn with my Givenchy Le rouge lip colors are the Cle de Peau's Brow Pencil and Powder Foundation with YSL's Shocking Felt Tip Eyeliner and Lancome's Hypnose Drama WP Mascara (no false lashes).

103 Brun Créateur is considered a dusty rose, and I do find the description appropriate. This is likely the most universally appropriate shade and especially ideal for those in professional work environments since it is conservative yet flattering. You can top with a paler gloss to tone down the slight brown lean.
104 Brun Cachemire is considered a plum brown, but it pulls more brown against my skin tone and gives the overall appearance of a brick red. It may pull more plum, however, on cooler tones and will look very natural on those with tan and deep skin. (For reference, I am considered light-medium so the contrast causes 104 to look more dramatic on me.)

Now, what is next on my list? 102 Beige Plume, a peachy beige that should be the perfect nude for beach days in Summer '13, and 202 Rose Dressing, a bright coral pink that I cannot wait to wear on casual days with lots of mascara and a little bit of liquid highlighter.

Bottom Line: You have officially met the best semi-matte lipstick of 2013, and since the color line-up has a little something for everyone, your vanity needs at least one!

  3. When I first bought these lipsticks I wondered how it would interact with your lips drying issues. Glad to see they worked out for you. I got the Brun Creatur as a sample from Sephora - I'm an NC15 and it looked nice (not too dark). But it's not really a color I like wearing. I bought full size of 3 colors: Rose Taffetas, Rose Dressing, and Beige Plume. The roses are very similar - one is slightly warm and the other slightly cool in tone. I really liked these - glad you did also. Have you tried Dior's Rouge Dior lipsticks? There pretty similar to these Givenchy lipsticks.

  4. Love these lipsticks. The reds in this collection are absolutely beautiful and the longest lasting I've ever tried. Glad you gave them a positive review. I don't comment a lot but I really appreciate your reviews on Youtube and the blog!
