Tom Ford Beauty Summer 2013 Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

The newest beauty collection from Tom Ford has launched at counters everywhere and is officially available online at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Tom Ford says that he had one goal with this collection. He "wanted to capture a very particular look of skin that is bathed in sunset light in the summer. It is a sultry and sublime glow. In this light, every woman looks irresistibly relaxed and sensual." I love ethereal glows without apparent shimmer, so I had high expectations for these new products (the Illuminator in particular). Please see individual product reviews and all swatches after the jump!

The coveted Cream Color for Eyes ($40 USD each) are back in two wearable shades, Pink Haze and Escapade, and they are perfection. This non-creasing, ultra-pigmented, and long-wearing formula is one of my must-have eye makeup products, and my readers and viewers know how dedicated I am to my Platinum Cream Color. But first, let us begin with the packaging. There is no longer a sticker glued on the lids because the TF initials are now etched in gold. And as a reminder, do not store these anywhere hot because the formula is a dense mousse. The product will melt and slide around the pot if not stored in a cool, dry place.

Initially, I was hesitant to wear Pink Haze because pinks nearly always cause my eyes to look swollen. Pink Haze, however, has just enough gold shimmer to balance out the delicate mauve-pink and adds an effortlessly chic glow to my lids. It is a wearable pink with a hint of peach, just like Platinum. Escapade is a golden peach. I was looking forward to this shade most, and I would recommend it to everyone because it is already a staple in my eye makeup routine. It actually wears like a cooler gold on my eyes than it does on the fabulous Makeup Magpie. Check out her eye look and refer to her excellent product comparison photos HERE. I, too, do not have anything in my collection that is identical to Pink Haze or Escapade. Do not miss out on these incredible limited editions and live to regret it.. order now!

The Nail Lacquer in Vapor ($30) is a sophisticated pearly white with a silver lean. Though it is similar to Chanel Attraction (reviewed HERE by the lovely Sabrina), which I am now tempted to purchase just to post comparison photos, Vapor is a rather unique color to my collection. Attraction is a true white pearl, while Vapor has a distinct silvery-white finish in real life. It may be a shade created for the summer, but I feel a bold bride could pull this off at her wedding because it has such a clean finish. Vapor applies smoothly and is fully opaque with two medium coats. I do not recommend three coats, as it loses the posh, modern appeal and appears too "slapped" on. I feel that Vapor is a collectible to be had, especially since it applies better than other metallic Tom Ford polishes I have tried.

The Pink Lust Lip Lacquer ($30.00) is officially my favorite Tom Ford lip gloss. Some do not like the lip lacquer formula as much as his standard glosses because it only lasts for two hours before reapplication is required, but Pink Lust is worth a try. The neutral light pink seen in the packaging does not translate directly to my lips, but it does leave a pearlescent pink seashell finish that is to die for! The golden, pulverized pearls in the formula give my lips a fuller look as well. Pink Haze is also not as fluid as my Gold Dust Lip Lacquer from last year, which I find slides around in my lip lines a bit more than I would like for it to. I love that Pink Lust is such a comfortable, lightweight gloss that stays put while managing to yield such a pretty sheen. Pink Lust is a must-have for those who want a polished yet natural nude lip look!

Illuminating Cheek Colors in Blush Guilt and Bronzed Amber ($48 USD each) are sheer cream blushes. They are packaged like his Traceless Foundation Sticks, twistingup and down. Bronzed Amber is incredibly intimidating in the tube, but it applies a veil of softly shimmering color to mimic tanned skin and adds definition to the cheeks. I love that it is not too orange. Blush Guilt gives the cheeks a sunkissed luster, which I also use to highlight the tops of my cheeks. It is a frosty cool pink, so it makes a lovely blush shade. Both shades are in very much in tune with the illumination effect that Tom Ford reveres so dearly.

I like to swipe both onto my skin directly from the tubes. I place Bronzed Amber below the cheekbone and Blush Guilt on the cheekbone, blending the two together with my fingers to create a complete cheek look. I recommend layering these creme products underneath powder bronzers and powder foundation to set unless you have dry skin and prefer the dewy, luminous finish. If anything, these work best on bare skin in that very au naturale beach bum look. These Illuminating Cheek Colors are unlike other color sticks (such as the ones by NARS or Shiseido) in that they do not dry down much, so that may or may not sway you. The powder bronzers ($90 USD) from this collection are Terra and Gold Dust, released last year and can be seen HERE.

The Skin Illuminator ($65 USD) in Fire Lust is the amped up, peach-tinged version of the Pink Lust Lip Lacquer for the skin. I have yet to pat this on top of my lips, but I definitely will try it because I love the pink-peach tone of this product. The gold shimmer in this product, however, is the star of the show. It is an ultra fine gold dust, and it does not separate from the thin formula of the highlighter. As with the Pink Lust Lip Lacquer, the highly micronized pearls diffuse light wherever the Illuminator is applied. It is supremely easy to blend because the formula is intended to be moisturizing, so I prefer patting this onto my skin after liquid foundation but before any powders. It is the most stunning tinted highlighter I have ever worn, and it is worthy of all the hoopla that erupted when this product first hit the counters. Fire Lust is selling out everywhere, so act now and call a Tom Ford counter to order one before they are all gone! According to BTiBeauty and other readers, counters are all sold out of Fire Lust already.. Call Dustin Lujan at the John Barrett Salon at 212.872.2714 to see if he can still procure one for you.

I was concerned that Fire Lust would not work harmoniously with my latest Tom Ford obsession, the Illuminating Highlight Pens, but it turns out they pair beautifully. I tested the Skin Illuminator on the tops of my cheekbones, blending it next to my Illuminating Highlight Pen in 05 Naked Bisque. Both formulas stayed put and did not muddy one another. You can also mix the Skin Illuminator with the Tom Ford Traceless Liquid Foundation to achieve radiant skin instead of wearing it alone to highlight certain features (which is my preference).

This collection makes effortlessly chic makeup for Summer achievable. All these products can be used with the fingers to gently accentuate your features, making them foolproof staples. Beauty that is easy always works for me! I recommend--in this order--the Eye Cream Colors, the Skin Illuminator, the Lip Lacquer and Nail Lacquer, the Illuminating Cheek Colors, and the Bronzing Powders.

Bottom Line: Tom Ford positively achieved the "sultry and sublime glow" he aimed for with these golden-toned pinks and peaches, making each of these limited edition products worthy of the hype and their price tags.

P.S. I wore Pink Haze on my upper lid & Escapade on my lower lash line in my latest video, My April Beauty Favorites! Check it out HERE to see these Cream Colors for Eyes and the Nail Lacquer in Vapor in action!

    1. No, it's just that I have way too many bronzers! I have seen them on many, and they are beautiful, so I would recommend splurging if you love bronzer and know you will wear it.

  4. I was completely bowled over by this collection and scooped up everything except the nail lacquer and repromoted powdered bronzers (I have one from last year). I wear Escapade and Haz together to create an ombré wash of sunset color which goes from pale golden peach to rose gold to burnished rose. It's a stunning combination. I also use the two highlighter sticks the way you do--Guilt on top of my cheekbones; Amber just beneath. It's like a warm, summertime version of my beloved Shade & Illuminate. As for Fire Lust--OMG :-) Worn alone, mixed with foundation or moisturizer, applied strategically or all-over, it is an incredibly versatile product. I think TF knocked it out of the ballpark with his stunning interpretation of the warm and sensual glimmer of a summer sunset.

Thanks for such a complete and comprehensive review. My splurge has been vindicated! LOL

  5. Now this collection is all about that ethereal glow, love it! Very different from the other collections but in a good way. I'm really interested in the cream shadows, they look like deliciousness, it reminds me of chocolate mousse but in a golden shade ^^. The skin illuminator sounds like something very flattering for a lot of skin tones actually. Maybe it's good we can't get the full TF cosmetic line here because I would be broke!

  9. Thanks so much for the mention :) Beautiful swatches! The blush in Guilt looks lovely with your skintone. It was one of the items that first drew my eye at the counter and your swatches make me want to go back and grab it before it's gone. I also really loved the Fire Lust Illuminator. :)

    1. Guilt is easier to wear than Amber, too! I love that Guilt can be used as a blush or a pale highlight.. pick up Fire Lust before it's gone, though. I keep hearing from readers that many counters are already sold out!

  11. I'm wanting to order the cream color and am worried it will melt in shipping, did yours melt and that is why they aren't fluffy looking like the promo pictures? Any insight you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  15. Hi, how did you get blush guilt to show up so nicely on your hand? I've swiped it maybe 5-6x and there's just nothing but sticky!
