August 2014 Favorites + Tom Ford Fall 2014 Preview

I feel as though I say this constantly, but I cannot believe another four weeks has flown by. It is true what they say — that your early twenties seem to drag on, but that your mid-twenties will pass in the blink of an eye. I wish I could stop time to enjoy the little things! Still, August was a great month dedicated to growth and change and finally, some weight loss! My first juice cleanse was one of the most eye-opening experiences, but I have been doing my best to eat healthier overall, despite my hectic schedule and late night cravings. Though I'm struggling with some hormonal blemishes this week, I feel completely like myself again! I hope you'll enjoy this month's selection of Hits & Misses, as there are some very highly requested product reviews and updates here. Thanks always for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful start to the Fall season! xo

Get Ready With Me | Glamorous Weekend Edition feat. makeup inspired by Blake Lively

This is the first of my Get Ready with Me series, and I hope you'll be pleased by the inspiration from celebrity style icon Blake Lively! It is a slightly different take on the standard GRWM video, but I did my best to stay true to the concept by showing the complete makeup tutorial along with styled hair and an outfit. I love Blake Lively's effortless, chic perspective, so when I saw the Gucci Premiere Eau de Toilette campaign photos and videos that I had to attempt a recreation! I hope you'll enjoy the glamorous, sweeping views of Los Angeles from the famed Griffith Observatory, shot by the ever lovely and creative Kassia Phoy. xo

Kevyn Aucoin The Loose Shimmer Shadow Review, Photos, Swatches [7 SHADES]

The Kevyn Aucoin Loose Shimmer Shadow ($29 USD each) is the only loose eyeshadow formula that I will use. I love the unique shade selection and how the colors glimmer as they catch light. These shadows are finely milled, so they will never look glittery or heavy on the lids. The consistency is feather-light, but the colors have so much impact because of the pearlescent pigments, which is why I am addicted to these Loose Shimmer Shadows! Check out the gorgeous swatches after the jump!

TRAVEL: My Beauty Essentials + How to Pack Them!

I treasure my beauty products very much, so I always keep the vast majority with me in my carry on luggage when I fly. I tend to travel with minimal clothing and shoes, but I always pack extra when it comes to skin care and makeup, as you'll see in the video below! I love having options, so I bring just about everything I could possibly want or need.
Now, I learned the hard way that packing my liquids in a Ziploc bag is a horrible idea. That is why I now use a large pouch from my ZÜCA, which is much sturdier and can be wiped down after each trip. You can purchase the pouches individually, so don't feel the pressure to splurge on a Sport or Artist Pro. As far as makeup storage goes, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier consistently release limited edition cases that are perfect for both home organization and travel. I usually purchase mine around the Holidays!

Cheerful "Aegyo Sal" Eyes & Ombré Lips Korean-Inspired Makeup Tutorial

The "Aegyo Sal" makeup trend began in Korea but has become all the rage throughout Asia in the past couple years. This puffy, cheerful-eyed look creates a more youthful appearance by enhancing the tiny pouches of fat and muscles directly below lash lines yet above dark circles. You can see some examples of Korean celebrities below with and without (using Photoshop) aegyosal to demonstrate how much of a difference it can make on the face. When executed properly, the aegyo sal trend achieves a cute and sprightly look that is perfect for Spring — enlarging the eyes and brightening the face. As stated in the video, I layered powder on top of cream eyeshadows to enhance the effect. For a more subtle everyday take, use either cream or powder eyeshadows and skip the layering step!

My Natural, "Everyday Chic" Makeup + Hair using By Terry, Kevyn Aucoin, Lipstick Queen, and Oribe + SPACENK GIVEAWAY

The beauty of everyday makeup is that it can be casual while pretty. It is all about creating as flawless a canvas as possible and enhancing the features with hints of color. We may all have different ideas regarding what is natural, but this is definitely a chic everyday look in my book. The hair is a deconsructed look which is not a style I generally gravitate toward, but I have been branching out and trying new techniques with my hair. This ponytail is low maintenance and quick to achieve, so I figured I would share my styling tips. I hope you enjoy seeing the lovely Kevyn Aucoin, By Terry, Lipstick Queen, and Oribe products in action, as I am really attached to these brands nowadays!

Kevyn Aucoin 'Iconic Eye' Look [Winged Eyeliner Tutorial]

Winged eyeliner is my signature makeup style, but I have not dedicated a tutorial to this effortless look in years, which is why today's feature is all about the classics.
I applied Tusk, a nude, on the lids and Rose Quartz, a shimmering rose gold, all over the crease. I've been obsessing over this Loose Shimmer ever since I ordered it from Nordstrom, so I will review the product later this week. I mixed a little bit of the Sculpting Powder, a cool brown, into the crease for definition. Bone, an ivory, was applied on the brow bone and blended in with Rose Quartz for a smooth transitional finish. I finished with one coat of the Volume Mascara and false eyelashes to amp up the look. This look is incredibly flattering but natural enough and appropriate for any occasion. I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

The Makeup Show LA Photo Diary - Recap & Haul

Hello, everyone! I did not officially announce it, but I was generously granted a Press Pass to The Makeup Show in Los Angeles last Sunday, so I had the opportunity to stop by and snap these photos for you. I attended the Show several years ago with Elessa of Pursebuzz and had a wonderful time. There were plenty of workshops and seminars as usual, and many industry insiders were out and about during the Show. Last Sunday morning was truly enjoyable, as I much preferred the more intimate environment (in comparison to IMATS) as well as the new and unexpected presence of higher-end brands. I was most excited to photograph Hakuhodo brushes and check out brands like Jouer that are not as easily accessible in stores.

Hakuhodo Displays -- My favorite collection by Hakuhodo below is the S series, look at the lovely orange lacquer! I will purchase a couple soon, since I know many of you are curious to see if these brushes are worthy of their price tags. Hakuhodo utilizes a lot of blue squirrel, my favorite natural hair for face brushes (incredibly soft). CLICK TO SEE MORE PHOTOS!
