ESSENTIALS | My Winter 2016 Beauty and Fashion Must-Haves

This is my last post of 2016 so I wanted to try something different and mix it up for you! I am relatively low maintenance on the day to day, keeping my routine as simple and time efficient as possible. My friends always joke that I look the same all the time, but I am a creature of habit so here are my trusty winter essentials. P.S. My sunglasses were purchased at Nordstrom, but Céline is not offered online. And many thanks to my friend Brian for braving the drizzle to snap these photos for me!

Let's start with skin because my daily routine is sunscreen and concealer. I recently started using a Shisiedo sunscreen which I talked about in my Nordstrom Winter Skin Care haul post, but if it's dark out, I'll use the Dior DreamSkin Cushion in 020. It instantly makes my skin look luminous and more even-toned. This is the epitome of the "no makeup" makeup look. Then I use the Cle de Peau Concealer in Ochre to cover all my redness and acne scarring. No other concealer manages to cover every imperfection while feeling like real skin for eight hours. Lastly, I keep my lips hydrated with Laura Mercier's Rose Lip Balm which is my go-to this winter. Since I drink water and coffee throughout the day, I have to reapply constantly. The packaging is sanitary and the silicone applicator makes it the ideal purse companion.

My daily bag is the Mini Givenchy Black Antigona in box leather with gold hardware. The older I get, the less I am interested in flap bags or any inconvenient design regardless of how beautiful they are. I want to grab my wallet and keys easily so the open zippered top is perfect for me. My mini Antigona holds its shape well and looks more polished than my slouchy Proenza Schouler bags, which is why I use the PS1s less lately.
My first Antigona was the pink in sugar leather, but it is significantly more delicate and has started to soften too much and look misshapen at certain angles. Ultimately, I love the Antigona so much that I am considering purchasing my third in Small Box Leather with silver hardware to accommodate my water bottle and bigger gadgets. It's that good!

I bought this T by Alexander Wang Peacoat sight unseen, and it's so comfortable that I reach for this more than any other jacket in my closet. It's 90% wool and 10% cashmere, but it has not pilled at all. I altered it already  taking about 4 inches off the sleeves  which is double more than usual. So tall girls with long arms, rejoice! I took my usual size of 0 and it has a roomy fit, generous in the arms and even wider around my rib cage. It almost looks like a swing coat when I leave it unbuttoned.
This cut is ideal for layering thick sweaters, although the shearling collar makes it difficult to wear my favorite super chunky turtlenecks comfortably. Luckily, it is removable with a few tiny buttons. Overall this is one of the best investment pieces I have purchased during Fall/Winter 2016, so I highly recommend this peacoat.

Since I get cold and sick quite easily, I own several Burberry Giant Check Wool Scarves, but the classic Camel is the one I wear most often. It has been very chilly lately so I throw one on every time I leave the house!
I've never regretted purchasing these because no other scarves compare, even from other designer brands. I love the 100% cashmere. My skin is extra sensitive and cannot tolerate most synthetic blends or even certain wool blend scarves. I never have issues with Burberry's. Their cashmere weave is soft and lightweight but sturdy and matches well with most of my outerwear. I plan on getting this sheer version next because sometimes the cashmere is too much when paired with wool sweaters and is more versatile for Southern California weather year round.

The Rag and Bone Newbury Boots are a true cult classic, but it is a brand new closet staple for me! My best friend Tammy introduced me to the boots so when I saw the black fringe version was on sale on Nordstrom.com, I jumped on the opportunity to try them. I ordered them in a size 6. They are extremely roomy so I wear my thickest socks and still have heel gap. I, however, purchased a pair of the standard Suede Newbury in size 5. They are a smidgen too tight on my left foot.
I really wish Rag and Bone made a size 5.5 because it's the one half size they do not offer. I still plan on purchasing the classic black leather version in 6 despite the sizing issue because they pair so well with jeans and leggings. The chunky heel and leather sole makes an incredibly stable and comfortable combo, right out of the box. Since it has been raining too much and too often here to wear suede, the black leather upper seems like a good investment. At least that's how I'm going to justify it hehe

Wishing you all love and happiness! Cheers to a happy healthy prosperous 2017! xo
