PREVIEW | Christian Louboutin Lip Colour + First Impressions of Rouge Louboutin (3 Formulas)

Christian Louboutin Nail Lacquer + Rouge Louboutin Lip Colour
The most exciting launch since Tom Ford's Private Blend lipstick collection several years ago is finally upon us! I have three Christian Louboutin Lip Colours to share today — the Rouge Louboutin trifecta — the same color in three flawless formulas. Unlike the rest of the line's golden packaging, these signature shades are housed in black bullets. These Louboutin Charme lipsticks have now popped up on Sephora, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue! Continue reading for my first impressions of each of the formulas xo

Christian Louboutin just launched this incredible, fantastic, collectible collection at all major retailers. Each Lip Colour is priced at $90. Are they worth the splurge?

First and foremost, these lipsticks are works of art. If you've ever held a Guerlain Rouge G, they feel similar in weight. The varied detailing and styling of the Louboutin bullets to differentiate their formulas, however, makes this launch particularly unique. The designs are bold and modern yet distinctly feminine and familiar and empowering. Is it a weight or an anchor? A vial of poison or a Saber tooth? Whatever your interpretation, every detail is mesmerizing!

Each Lip Colour cap — lined in red — comes with a small ring on top. If you thread a ribbon through it, the Lip Colour can be worn as a necklace. I think long gold and/or silver chains would be lovely, too! When worn as jewelry, these lipsticks take on an Art Deco vibe that is dramatic yet chic.

The line features 38 lust-worthy shades in three different textures that are inspired and named after iconic shoes and shades that Christian Louboutin customers have previously encountered. These Lip Colours represent the brand and carry with them the stories and aspirations of that famed red sole, but all lips deserve to wear Rouge Louboutin! Start your Red Sole story with the Lip Colour.

The Velvet Matte Collection (above) is offered in 9 highly pigmented shades with a soft matte finish. It feels lush and truly velvety! The color doesn't sit in my lip lines or accentuate lip imperfections, and more importantly, the formula is not excessively powdery. This Rouge Louboutin rendition leans a little more burgundy on me, making it much more versatile and wearable for day. I am curious to see how the nudes will perform, but for now, I plan to pre-order Bengali.

The Sheer Voile Collection is also offered in 9 shades with a sheer finish for a veil of color with luminous shine. I was blown away at first swipe. It is incredibly smooth and forgiving on dry lips, but the formula isn't too slippery or excessively glossy. This Rouge Louboutin was most similar to the bright red of the iconic sole. It brightens my complexion without making me feel self-conscious, so I highly recommend it. I was only planning to pre-order Tres Béa, but Escatin is now on the list!

The Silky Satin Collection is offered in a whopping 20 shades. This is beyond impressive for a first launch, and this medium to full coverage lip color boasts a classic satin finish with a hint of shine. The color payoff is similar to Tom Ford's Lip Colour, but this Silky Satin formula is much more hydrating and hugs the lips closer. I love that it looks rich but feels light. This Rouge Louboutin is a little darker and a hint more berry-toned than I expected it to be, but it is quite flattering! I plan to pre-order Très Décolleté and Loubeach.

I love how the Louboutin team managed to cater to every skin tone and created multiple shades in the same family. Furthermore, I am happy to report that none of the Rouge Louboutin lipsticks caused my very sensitive, chronically dry lips to peel. I will share swatches once I receive my pre-orders!

My favorite formula is the Sheer Voile (above), since it is the brightest but lowest maintenance of the Rouge Louboutins. I also love the packaging the most of the three styles!

The Silky Satin is a high performance lipstick with long wearing color payoff. I love the subtlety of the lustrous finish because the formula feels perfectly balanced. It's obvious why they chose to create 20 shades!

The Velvet Matte is an exceptional lipstick because it retains the trendy matte look without crumbling or sacrificing lip health (the way most liquid formulas tend to do).

There is also a beautiful calligraphy-inspired Lip Definer ($40). It is reportedly extra-long wearing, six hours or more, so I will order one and report back soon!

Rouge Louboutin Nail Colour
In case you needed any more convincing, let the brilliant Mr. Louboutin explain why you need these. "After the eyes, lips represent the most expressive element of the face. And there's the fetish appeal, because lipstick can transform a face from intense to naive or even dangerous... When she slips on a pair of heels, we observe her walk. If she applies lacquer to her nails, we admire her hands. With its slow, circular application, lip makeup becomes a rich and sensual gesture." I think I was just persuaded to order a few more!

In all seriousness, a few other shades have intrigued me, but I plan to wait to see the collection in a Saks Fifth Avenue store this month in September. These Christian Louboutin Lip Colours are an expensive indulgence, but they are undoubtedly the beauty must-have of 2015. What are your wish list's top picks? Share in the comments below!

  2. If these were in Canada, I'd be tempted to get at least the Rouge Louboutins from each set. I'm a sucker for a red lipstick and like how they can be worn as necklaces.

    1. These lipsticks look stunning - I definitely want to see them in person before taking the plunge but wow, is that a collector's item to have or what? I would probably buy one for that reason at least. Packaging like this one comes along once every few years. Thanks for a first look, Rae!
