The Makeup Show 2014 Haul! Hakuhodo + NARS + Stila

I always look forward to The Makeup Show! It is a beauty trade show, much like IMATS, but it has a more intimate feel. I was not able to take as many photos as I had hoped, but you can always take a look at my thorough Photo Diary from last year's show HERE! Today, I will focus on sharing my haul goodies, especially since many of you have continued to ask questions about Hakuhodo brushes. I expanded my collection quite a bit, so check out my new babies after the jump!

I will begin with my one and only Stila purchase, a lip glaze! I've been loving the limited edition, deluxe sizes in the Spring Fling Lip Glaze Trio (particularly Fairy Dust), but I have been craving a peach version. Since the full-size glosses were 40% off at the show, I took advantage of the opportunity to score the soft and pretty Apricot shade. I was considering the Watermelon shade, but I exercised restraint and only brought home one!

Now for NARS.. I have caught the NARS bug in the past few months, so I brought home two more lip pencils and two eyeliners. I adore lipstick products I can toss into my small bags and reapply on the go. I've been eyeing the Velvet Gloss Pencil in Buenos Aires for a while, so I finally crossed that nude beige pink off my wishlist. I did not expect to purchase the Satin Lip Pencil in Jardin des Plantes, but the NARS rep recommended it and I cannot resist a good fuchsia. Also worth noting is that Jardin des Plantes is a NARS.com and boutique exclusive, meaning it is NOT available at Sephora or Nordstrom. The more exclusive, the better!

I also added a back-up of the Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner pencil in Via Veneto simply for the fact that it was 30% off. I was not sure, and still am not sure, if the Eyeliner Stylo in Carpates was a worthwhile splurge. Because I have been testing out all sorts of felt-tip eyeliners recently, I figured it was worth a shot due to Cafe Makeup's positive review.

And finally, my second Hakuhodo haul this year! I was excited to purchase more eye brushes this time, since the affordable J and B series have turned out to be so, so impressive! I was hesitant about the $20 and $17 price points, but they perform even better than the more expensive MAC eye brushes.. what a bargain, right? I still think the MAC 239 is my holy grail shader, but Hakuhodo and Tom Ford offer the best in quality blending and face brushes!

Some good news is that all the J brushes I purchased were stamped with their style numbers, something that the Hakuhodo brushes I purchased in the past were missing. The bad news is that a couple of the S series eye blending brushes I planned to purchase were sold out, so I will have to make a trip to the Hakuhodo show room later this year to purchase them.. this means my Hakuhodo brush guide will have to wait because I would like to review my entire collection in one go!

And since face brushes are my weakness, I could not leave without purchasing four of them. I have been seeing more and more bloggers talking about Hakuhodo's duo fibre brushes, so I had to try these unique white versions to see what the hype is all about! I added another Kokutan brush, a medium powder, to my collection along with a new G series, an angled cheek contour brush. I will be testing every single one in the upcoming few weeks, so please stay tuned for the complete guide for all style numbers and details. P.S. I just ordered the infamous SUQQU Face Brush (omg *squeal* yay) from Selfridge's!

I was not able to make it to the big Press Night before the opening of the show on Saturday, but nonetheless, I was gifted a little kit with some covetable beauty treats! I was excited to see a Kevyn Aucoin Eyeshadow Duo since his shimmery textures are some of the best on the market! I love how smooth and luminous they are, excellent with or without eyeshadow primer. I've also mentioned how essential Parian Spirit is for makeup artists and for traveling, so I was glad to see a spray bottle in the mix!

  3. Thanks for sharing your haul from the Makeup Show, Rae. I was under the impression that only makeup artists could attend this show. Is it open to the public as well?

  4. Sounds like you had a great time. I'm especially looking forward to your review of the Hakuhodo brushes that you bought. Except for my one MAC 239, all my eye brushes are now Suuqu, Tom Ford (by Hakuhodo) or Hakuhodo. Superlative brushes every one!
