Hourglass Visionaire Eyeshadow Duos in Suede, Dune, and Prism Review, Photos, Swatches

Hourglass Visionaire Eyeshadow Duos ($38 USD each) pair two complementary shades of super smooth color that create gorgeous looks singly or together. Each versatile hue may be applied dry for a natural look or wet for more intensity. The pigmentation is incredibly rich, so the colors can be worn on my normal lids without a primer for all-day wear. On top of a base, these eyeshadows last for a good ten hours with very little fading and no creasing whatsoever. Check out the shade break downs and swatches after the jump!

Each Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo boasts two silky eyeshadows enclosed in a glossy cool brown compact with a 360° swivel lid, the most innovative packaging on the market. It is useful yet elegant, so I love to carry these lightweight compacts in my purse when traveling.

SUEDE includes a warm ivory shimmer and a light, cooler beige with gold shimmer. This is the safest duo in the Visionaire color range because the colors are nude and the shimmer has a subtle brightening effect. Still, it is my favorite because of its consistency in texture and its ability to even out discoloration on the eyelids. Suede is perfect for use on those no-nonsense, "no makeup" days. Ideal for fair to light-medium skin tones.

DUNE includes a deep champagne with a slightly metallic gold finish and dark, smoky olive with green and gold shimmer. It is the most flattering approach to the khaki-theme eyed possible, and the refined shimmer elevates the look. The olive shadow appears more forest green in the pan but the swatches show it true to color. I personally prefer the smokier style. It makes the color more versatile, since I can layer the champagne on top of the olive for a brighter green look.

PRISM includes a slate blue shimmer with a silver lean and a matte black with multi-colored glitter flecks. The blue has a hint of fogginess that pairs impeccably well with the black (which can be used wet as an eyeliner). This is a slightly more colorful take on a smoky eye, but I find this pairing is very wearable even on my yellow-toned, light-medium skin. The glitter may look obvious in the pan and in swatches, but the effect is significantly more subtle when blended across the eye.

All these Hourglass eyeshadows have intense and/or buildable pigmentation and apply smoothly across the lids. Since the powders are more dense than standard eyeshadows, a little goes a long way. A dab in each pan is enough for each eye's look and there is essentially no fall-out when applied with a patting/pressing motion. Furthermore, these itty bitty pans house a lot more product than they appear to, a whopping 0.20 oz, making them a great luxury splurge.

The Hourglass Visionaire Eyeshadow Duos are available at Sephora or Barney's

Bottom Line: Hourglass makes some of the most covetable, high-quality eyeshadows in a perfectly edited range of delightfully wearable colors!
