Christian Louboutin Scarabée Nail Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

Christian Louboutin just launched the Scarabée Collection, three new and limited edition nail lacquers inspired by Egyptian iconography. The iridescent beauty and mesmerizing wonder of the sacred scarab beetles represents rebirth and riches, perfectly themed for Autumn/Winter 2015! Check out the swatches after the jump xo

According to Sephora, "these Christian Louboutin Nail Colours feature pigment pearls that reflect two shades at once, delivering unique reflections that are reminiscent of the colors on scarab beetles. Scarabée I comes in a nude pink/gold, Scarabée II flaunts a violet blue, and Scarabée III coats on a green/bronze color."

The gold packaging does look like a sleek and luxurious accessory, very much in tune with the Egyptian theme of the collection. The soft matte box features a cutout window and copper gold scarab motif. The formula is glossy but semi-sheer so it layers well without streaking or bubbling. I recommend 3 thin coats when worn alone. If you prefer a truly opaque look, try one of the Noirs, like Bianca or even Kohl, as the base and finish with 2 coats of any Scarabée.

The Scarabée polishes dry faster than most of my Louboutin polishes, largely due to the ultra smooth, thin (but not watery or runny) pearly formula. All three shades look bright and lively in the sunlight, while they glisten like vibrant precious jewels at night. The duochrome effect of the Scarabée collection is equally as intense as Chanel's, although a touch less sparkly (see Pediot swatch below).

I pulled some similar shades for comparison swatches, but I could not find a match for any of the Scarabées. Scarabée I is more medium pink than nude. I initially assumed it would be similar to Chanel's Atmosphere, but they're quite different. The mood of Scarabée I is significantly warmer. That golden shift will be difficult to dupe. Scarabée II is also unique in that it flashes teal, not just violet blue. I swatched Chanel's Azure next to it for some contrast to bring out the green, but Chanel's Bel-Argus is more similar overall due to the more dominant cool blue tones. Scarabée III is reminiscent of Chanel's Peridot, although with much more orange and bronze as opposed to khaki and yellow. The green shift is very subtle. Scarabée III and Peridot look far more similar in the bottles than they do in swatches and on the nails. I was definitely taken aback at how unique all the Scarabées turned out to be!

I'll be wearing Scarabée I and III on my hands often. They're modern yet ladylike and wholly flattering. Scarabée III is a bold choice for a manicure, but I just love catching glimpses of the pretty teal. I can't wait to wear these on vacation. Do not miss out on these limited edition shades! Available now via Nordstrom and Sephora.
