Giorgio Armani Eye Tints Review, Photos, Swatches [Obsidian, Gold Ashes, Shadow, Émeraude, Cold Copper, Green Iron] + Complete Look

Giorgio Armani's lovely new Eye Tints ($38 USD each) were inspired by the Maestro foundation, blending smoothly for a "no makeup" feel. I have been testing them for a few weeks now, and it is positively one of my favorite 2015 beauty launches thus far. We are seeing the 'fluid' trend build even more momentum in both eye and lip departments, and the improving performance of the products make it clear the trend is not going away any time soon! I tend to wear a lot of highlighter shades and less impact color like purple or navy eyeshadow, so I was very excited to see the fun yet wearable shade lineup. All swatches and a complete eye look are after the jump!

The fine tip can be used as an eyeliner applicator!
The luminous "smart eye color film" formula combines the purity of a powder, the staying power of an ink and the feel of a cream! No flaking or creasing whatsoever for an entire day (8+ hours) with the lighter shades. Many waterproof or water-resistant eyeshadows tend to dry out my lids upon contact, but these long-wearing Armani Eye Tints had a slight cooling sensation without tingling. The fluid transforms into a powder finish eye color within 20 seconds of application. The application is foolproof; simply swipe across the lids and blend away! I used my Shu Uemura Kolinsky 11 for precision blending since my eyes are small.

My favorite shade, the highlighter, did not budge whatsoever, and the fading was truly minimal. Rest assured, there is no sticky feel or residue despite its highly reflective finish. The black shade — which I have doubled for use as an eyeliner — did transfer a wee bit to the upper lid while I was filming, so I will try using an eyeshadow primer next time! It gets very hot while filming and my makeup tends to slide more, meaning that in normal circumstances, the black should stay put like the other shades!

I have six shades of the twelve shades to share with you. From left to right, we have 01 Obsidian, 12 Gold Ashes, 07 Shadow, 04 Émeraude, 09 Cold Copper, and 06 Green Iron. The swatches are fairly true to real life, although they are much more vibrant on the eyes. Blend them for a polished translucent, natural effect or build them up for glamorous drama. 12 may be the sheerest with a single swipe, but it has the strongest metallic gleam by far (see below).

Here are a different set of swatches to show you the density of pigment. I love that the finish of each color changes with the opacity level! You can create iridescent, matte, metallic or satiny finishes depending on how you layer and blend the shades. I recommend using Obsidian and Émeraude as eyeliners. Now, I expected Shadow to lean purple, but it actually reads more gunmetal-blue on my warm yellow-toned skin. Cool Copper swatches warmer on my arm, but it reads cooler and brighter on my eyes!

After a bit of experimenting, I fell absolutely in love with the combination of 12 Gold Ashes, 09 Cold Copper, and 01 Obsidian — as seen in my latest Holy Grail Makeup Brushes video here. It is a classic smoky eye with the right amount of warm/cool balance and a whole lot of smudging to keep it subtle yet alluring. "A dash of mystery," as Linda Cantello* calls it! This look is ideal for neutral makeup lovers, so I hope you'll give it a try. I applied Gold Ashes all over the lids, focusing most of the layering in the tear duct area. I applied Cold Copper along the lower lashes and Obsidian along the outer half of the upper lids, winging it out of course!

I'm interested in the turquoise, 03 Jade, as worn on the model in the ad campaign because it is more interesting than a basic neutral look, but I think 11 Rose Ashes and 08 Flannel will be my next splurges. I cannot resist rose gold to save my life these days, and the industrial tone of the lilac-pink really intrigues me!

The Giorgio Armani Eye Tints are now available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdale's. I love the packaging, the formula, the concept. The Eye Tints are also travel friendly and only take minutes to apply flawlessly! I used them almost daily during my recent trip to Japan and Singapore, and they cut down on my prep time dramatically.

Bottom Line: At the very least, you need 12 Gold Ashes + 09 Cold Copper!

    1. No, they definitely set on my normal eyelids! Even during my recent visit to Singapore, I wore 12 and had no issues whatsoever! Try the lighter colors first just in case :)

  5. Hi Rae, my makeup rep at NM put the flannel on top of the obsidian and it looked gorgeous! The eyeshadow stayed
put for over 14 hours and no creasing! This is an awesome product, well worth the price.
