Once upon a time, home fragrance was unknown territory. I was aware that Bath & Body Works candle hauls littered YouTube land, but I was rarely impressed by their cloying scents and lackluster throw. In the past year, I have become obsessed with all things Home & Decor, especially candles. I discovered Voluspa while wandering through Nordstrom recently, so I wanted to share my thoughts on a few of their Vermeil (formerly Seasons) collection's candles. Clove Pomander: Spicy with Bergamot, Clove, Nutmeg, and Pear notes
French Bourbon Vanille: Sweet with creamy Vanilla notes
Makassar Ebony & Peach: Sweet with Apple Blossom, Ebony Wood, and Peach notes
The French Bourbon Vanille and Makassar Ebony & Peach candles have been Voluspa Classics since 2006 while the Clove Pomander candle is a Classic returning from 2005. I found that Voluspa's fragrances please both men and women, particularly my picky loved ones who are more than happy to admit they prefer more linear scents. If your friends and family or co-workers are sensitive to fragrances, Voluspa is the way to go.
Clove Pomander smells like Red Hot candy, which I did not expect. It is quite spicy due to the clove but has a hint of citrus thanks to the bergamot and pear notes. This is the perfect Holiday scent because it warms up a room, and it is well balanced. I loved the French Bourbon Vanille at first sniff because it reminded me of a sophisticated vanilla bean cupcake, but it is much more nuanced when burned. It took about 3 hours for the candle to truly develop the scent, which means it requires a bit of patience to truly appreciate. Still, I am very apprehensive when it comes to vanilla scents, which either run boozy or synthetic, so I appreciate how palatable French Bourbon Vanille is. The Makassar Ebony & Peach candle is my personal favorite of the three featured today. The black ebony wood is subtle, with ripe peach and apple blossom dominating the burn. Overall, it is juicy but soft and sensual, so I plan to burn this in my bedroom all year round.
The 3-wick Tin candle ($20 USD) and 2-wick Glass candle with Lid ($24 USD) have times of 60 hours, while the Slender Glass candle with 1 wick ($18 USD) burns for 50 hours. Despite the variation in packaging, the coconut wax in every candle burns fairly cleanly and each of the wicks was highly exposed — easy to light and trim.
Now, as much as I adore the handblown vintage effect of the luxurious glass candle's lid and how the flecked foiling looks when lit, I find that the 3-wick tin provides excellent throw so they are the best fit for my home fragrance needs. The vaulted ceilings of my living room require candles with the most throw possible, so I found that Clove Pomander was the only candle that filled the space in an hour on the first burn. The 1 and 2-wick candles are ideal for smaller bedrooms, bathrooms, and office spaces.

I love your taste in everything! I thought it was just me that was disappointed in other popular candles, every b&bw candle I bought smells nice in the tin but upon burning the 'throw' is so weak that from a distance, I can smell the faint scent of the wick burning more than the scent itself!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! As with nearly everything, you pay for what you get. BBW candles are cheap, but after burning dozens, I've only found one with decent throw (Frosted Cupcake). I enjoy more complex, unique scents with excellent throw so I prefer brands like Diptyque. I'll be reviewing my favorites soon!
