Physicians Formula Fall 2013 Review & Giveaway

Physicians Formula has always been one of my favorite drugstore brands. Their products have consistently worked well on my sensitive skin, so I feel comfortable trialling and recommending their products. Check out some of their newest product launches and enter the special giveaway after the jump!

The Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner Nude Collection ($10.95 USD) contains nine modern, "greige" shades that are easy to wear. The three color combinations create a variety of classic nude eyes that are intended to suit any eye color. My favorite combination is the second look, which consist of the three shades in the center of the palette. Any of these eyeshadows can also be used wet for more intensity.

The Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trio Nude Collection ($11.95) is a bargain for three shimmery pencil liners. My favorite of the three colors is the copper since it has a brightening effect. It is perfect for use on the lower lash lash line, and this particular color wears well though it is is not as creamy as the other two. The dark brown with golden shimmer and black with iridescent shimmer are great for every day use since they are not excessively dark and glide on easily. I did, however, notice some smudging at the outer corners after 3 hours of wear.

The Sexy Booster Sexy Glow Bronzer ($13.95 USD) is a light bronzer with a fabulous peachy-golden glow. It has a warm vanilla scent and frost finish that are both on the heavy side. Use this powder sparingly since it can emphasize large pores! It will kick up quite a bit of dust, so avoid using the flat brush applicator included and stick to to a traditional rounded bronzer brush. I recommend it only for fair to light-medium skin tones, as was intended, though dark skins could use it as a highlighter.

The Sexy Booster Sexy Glow Blush in Rose ($11.95 USD) is also scented with lingering warm vanilla fragrance, but I prefer this blush to the bronzer for its diffused highlighting effect. The baby pink base color of this powder is on the sheerer side, so it is not a traditional full coverage blush. Since the silver and peach shimmer read strongly on the skin, I consider it more of a tinted powder illuminator. It is the ideal cheek product for the fair-skinned that would like to achieve a soft and girly look.

The Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Correcting Powder ($13.95 USD) is a primer, corrector, and powder all in one! I love that the compact features the powder on top while the mirror and tri-colored brush are housed underneath. The Japanese formula delivers a smooth skin effect as the literature claims, but the Buff Beige shade must be used with a large, fluffy powder brush. I prefer the older Mineral Pressed powder, but it has been reformulated, repackaged and renamed as the Mineral Airbrushing Pressed Powder SPF30. I will definitely give that one in Beige a try since this Correcting Powder in Buff Beige is a touch too fair for my light-medium skin.

The Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Dark Circle Corrector + Concealer ($12.95 USD) is one of the best budget buys I have encountered this year. The formula is creamy but dense, so it does not crease. The Yellow color reduces dark circles while the Light color is meant to be layered as a concealer on top of Yellow. I'm not a fan of the screw-on plastic covers since they tend to get messy, but the metal rollerballs really do soothe the eyes and help to reduce puffiness. I highly recommend this!

The Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin FakeOut Mascara ($9.95 USD) has a formula infused with natural lash extension fibers to create a fuller fringe without irritation. I love the oversized brush, and this mascara successfully thickens my lashes without leaving behind clumps. This formula is not waterproof, so it does not hold curl as well as my Holy Grail mascaras, but it does leave the lashes feeling soft and fluttery.

Since I know many of you look forward to swatches, here they are below!

  5. I loveeeeeee the mineral correcting powder. Instead of using all over face... I use as last step for highlighting. It sets under eye area so well. Brightens and really helps even out my skin tone. Works amazing and always a part of my makeup routine. Great giveaway! Good luck to everyone and me of course hehe. :)
