Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Color [New/Reformulated] Lipstick Swatches + Review

The Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick range has recently been reformulated and I just wanted to update everyone with a quick post of swatches, since they are apparently scarce at the moment! You can purchase them through Nordstrom HERE. And no, that is not an affiliate link. Swatches after the jump :)

The new Luminous Intense formula did not stray too far from the original Luminous formula. My Chanel Sales Associate informed me the new formula was infused with a couple more oils, but I do not find the new Intense formula particularly more hydrating. In fact, I would have appreciated a touch more moisture at first swipe. The lipstick is, nonetheless, still long lasting and very comfortable to wear, no excess peeling after the color dries down. I recommend you exfoliate your lips before wearing this formula, as the smooth canvas will help the color adhere better and possibly deliver some more of that advertised hydration. When my lips are in primed condition, I find that the color lasts on average of 5 to 6 hours on my lips. And that is with drinking throughout the day!

Pimpante featured with Volupte Glossimer on my Instagram.. my new favorite peach lip combo!

At the moment, I am having a love affair with one of the three that I purchased, 90 Pimpante. It is a soft peach, not too pale and not too orange. I had been looking for a more affordable alternative to my favorite peach Cle de Peau lipstick and Pimpante is very similar! Not that $34 is considered affordable, but it is indeed cheaper than CdP. But going back to the new Luminous Intense lipstick, my SA commented that Chanel engineers had redesigned the packaging for the 'click' of the lipstick bullet to not kink. It should be a smooth run of the bullet into the black case every time! Besides the packaging and the addition of the oils to formula, what else is different? It's the color range. The colors are meant to be more 'intense' and pack a punch that the old range of colors could not measure up to!

But I truly believe, as much as I have been enjoying these lipsticks, that unless you're a Chanel fan or unless you fall in love with a specific color, you will likely not find this lipstick worth $34 + tax. I would rather buy a Rouge D'Armani at $30 + tax because the RDA formula is just as luxurious. But I found all the new Chanel Luminous Intense shades very appealing and hence, I walked away with three.

NEW Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lipstick Swatches
95 and 96 are brighter and darker than pictured above!

Here are all 16 shades are broken down by color family, according to Chanel's pamphlet:

BEIGES/BROWNS
--89 GRACILE pink beige
--108 DETERMINEE violine brown
--109 ROUGE NOIR black red

CORALS
--90 PIMPANTE soft peach
--95 ENJOUEE pink coral
--96 EXCENTRIQUE intense apricot

PINKS
--91 SEDUISANTE soft pink
--92 SECRETE rosewood
--93 EXALTEE intense fuchsia
--94 EXTATIQUE blue intense pink [I am missing a swatch of this color, sorry!]

REDS
--97 INCANDESCENTE fire red
--98 COROMANDEL orange red
--99 PIRATE intense blue red
--102 PALPITANTE raspberry red
--104 PASSION intense red
--105 INIMITABLE intense pearly red

Some of the reds look pretty similar on the back of my hand when they are swatched next to each other, but they look clearly different when applied to the lips. My Chanel SA was wearing Passion and it appeared to be a neutral, comfortably matte and truly intense (not too bright) shade of red. Palpitante is one of the three I purchased, and the raspberry in the shade is quite apparent. I wanted to purchase a red that was different from what I already had in my collection; the raspberry hint was just what I needed. The last one I purchased was Gracile. Most people might dismiss it as another nude, but it actually is a nude that I can wear without washing out my complexion! My summer tan is still in the process of fading, so most nudes in my collection still look ghastly on me. Gracile is only a touch beige on me, more pink and neutral without being stark. I love it! It looks great layered when paired with any Glossimer!

Edit: Color update - Paliptante is definitely the best applying of the three I applied. It is perfectly hydrating, no shimmer but with a slightly glossy finish, completely opaque in three swipes.. definitely worth the $34! I love how the raspberry base is apparent against my coloring. Gracile has a touch of shimmer, a very nice nude that is not too pink or beige, but I wish it were a touch more hydrating because lighter colors tend to accentuate lip lines. Just smooth them out with a finger or lip brush, even top with a gloss! As much as I love Pimpante, it is the most shimmery of the three I purchased. The shimmers are micro-sized, so it does not cause my lips to peel. But this one is probably the least hydrating of the three. I much prefer wearing this topped with my Volupte Glossimer for moisture. Hope you found these color tidbits helpful!

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense watches in full sunlight!

Bottom Line: I am very happy with my new lipsticks and I love the colors that I chose. I was not happy with having to dish out $34 + tax for each of them, but I am sure I will get a lot of use out of them. I recommend you check them out at a counter first. At this price point, you should be in love with the color you choose to purchase!

  1. Yay!! Thank you so much for reviewing these! I actually cheered when I saw this come up on my RSS reader =^_^= Very interesting review. I'll admit that the clicky packaging is probably the #1 draw for me to these lipsticks, but the fact that they are hard to find also turned up the excitement! I hadn't considered that the Armani lipsticks might actually be better value... that was another brand that I'd often dreamed of trying but thought it was out of my price range. I'll definitely be tracking down one of these soon, but maybe I should add Armani to my list too...

Thanks so much Rae! You're my favourite reviewer of luxury brands ^_^

    1. Elana - I worked on this post for two hours at midnight for you! You were the first to ask me for this review, so I wanted to post it ASAP! The clicky packaging is awesome, but Armani has the magnetic packaging.. so overall, I think the Armani is still the better buy unless you fall in love with a particular Chanel color. Hope your classes have been going well, happy shopping <3

  2. I love them too! I bought 2: Gracile and seduisante. Thinking whether I should get a red... but I have quite a few already and I don't get to wear them enough. Thanks for the swatches! Excellent choices as always :-)

    1. I know exactly what you mean! But when I swatched Palpitante, even my best friend who has very little interest in makeup thought it was beautiful enough to warrant a purchase :)

  3. I just swatched all the new ones too. Unfortunately, while I truly intended to buy a Rouge Allure, none of the shades were tempting. I feel like they are just too close to all the lipsticks I have in my stash.

I actually picked up #40 from the older batch of Rouge Allure, only to find that it was out of stock. =( And I have to go back a week later... ...

    1. Yes, you have to purchase carefully! The shades just happened to work out for me and I purchased them for review.. otherwise, I definitely would rather have purchased more Rouge D'Armani :)

  6. I like your swatches, but I was disappointed with new texture. I tried #93 on my lips. It not so creamy as earlier.

    1. It does warm up while worn, as you can see in the second set of swatches! But it is true that they are not moisturizing enough for dry lips.

    2. Hi Christina, what a shame I bought the 93 and love the colour and texture it did not dry out my lips, what Rae says is true it warms up very nice on your lips a while after appyling maybe worth another try?

  11. Nice images - the colors look true!
Thanks for your comment. No, I have not tried Exaltee yet, as it seems similar to one I already own and love, l'Exuberante from the RA Velvet line. I'm told by two SAs that it "may be discontinued". If so, Exaltee is perhaps in my future..

  15. Hi, Thank you for the helpful article, I really needed the swatches and this article is probably the best and most informative so far. I would like to share my disappointment with these lipsticks and ask - How did you manage to get these luminous and moist swatches?
I love the color swathes that I see online, unfortunately on the lips the five colors that I tried were too bright. Don't get me wrong I am not afraid of brights, but these are neon bright in a tacky way. This is not the worst - the worst part is that they are way too dry. I cannot believe how mat they are in reality. Also the color changes when applied on the lips: something blue- red turns orange! The orange - on the lips looks like a raspberry. Dry lips effect does not flatter any age even very young. Very disappointed...

  16. Hi Rae, I just purchased Pimpante. Its a beautiful colour but now I am worried that it is a tad drying (I tried it on at a Chanel Makeup store and it dries out my lips after a while :( ) Ive read your posts on your lipstick choices and I have the same issues with you (sensitive and sometimes peeling lips). May I ask how do you wear your Pimpante? I am worried that I am unable to return the product as I live faraway from the store that I purchased from.

  17. This was so incredibly helpful! I was researching Chanel lipsticks, as a gift for a a good friend, and was actually considering Paliptante, since it's so bold and lovely. I needed to see swatches since I'm ordering online (no Chanel counters near me) to make sure it looked as lovely on the skin as it did in the tube and this post was exactly what I was looking for. Also it would've been really nice to see some pictures of the three you bought worn on the lips just to get an idea of the effect.

Thank you for this lovely post!
