My DIY Hair Color Project - Product List

If you haven't heard, I changed my hair color! I wanted to remove the red tones from my natural hair color and turn my whole head into a dark ash brown but my stubborn hair simply wouldn't allow it. My hair is much lighter than I would prefer it to be at the moment because the color has been fading [at a very rapid pace, probably due to the fact I bleached it]. Most of my family and friends have all concluded they prefer darker hair on me, too, but I can't afford to damage my hair further so I will have to wait four weeks. Then I can see if Wella's Color Charm in Dark Ash Brown #148/3A is the color that I had in mind in the first place :)

And like I stated in the video, please don't take the information I've provided too seriously. I am a complete hair color novice! Hence, I'm not trying to "teach" anyone anything. I'm sure I have plenty of viewers who are much more well-versed in the language of hair but this is just my hair story and I'm sharing with you the products I used because it was so highly requested.

  1. Rae, what did you use to dye your eyebrows?

  2. I can't wait to see your new hair color!

  3. Wow that is alot of products haha but it's amazing how you had the guts to go through the whole DIY process. I've only ever dyed my hair once by myself, but I purchased the Liese Bubble Hair Color Dye which is possibly, the easiest method for lazy people like me! :)

  4. Anon - I didn't dye my brows! I just filled them in with a brown brow pencil :)

Steph - Me, too! I miss dark hair but it just keeps getting lighter and lighter! LOL

Sarah - I didn't realize how intimidating the process was until I started applying the products to my hair. It was laborious and way more work than I had anticipated! I'm glad you found a product that was easy to use, though :)

  5. I'm considering to try this DIY but I have a few more questions to ask you. I noticed that you have multiple products therefore, after you mix the bleach powder with the developer..do you place that on your hair? Then rinse, and apply the color mix with the developer? PLEASE HELP! :)

  6. I love this hair color on you! But do you think it would be okay if i used 30 developer for hair color instead of 20? Would it be too damaging?

  7. gorgeous blog! keep up the good work!
would love ur support for mine too xo

  8. Hi Rae!
When you say the color has been fading rapidly probably because you bleached it, do you mean your natural hair color? So you mean the brown hair color now keeps getting lighter??

I dyed my hair black several months ago and tried to go light brown but it turned out burgundy. How long would I have to bleach my hair and leave the brown hair color in if I want to go even lighter than your results? haha

    thanks xx

  9. Recommand a japanese hair dye product named PRETTIA, it is much easier to handle with.

  10. Catherine - Ion bleach with ion developer. Apply, let it sit for 30-45 minutes, then rinse. Wella color with wella developer, apply and let sit for 35 minutes, then rinse.

    Anon - I'd stick to 20!

Anon 2 - My new brown hair color is what I was referring to. You should leave the bleach in for 45 minutes and then apply the hair color you're looking to achieve. Remember it will fade soon ^.^

    CJ - I've tried Prettia before :) It's okay, a bit expensive!

  11. Hey Rae, so is it ok, if I bleached my hair, and then got a box of dye from garnier or something and apply it? Or do I have to mix my own color developer?? Please helpp :)

  12. Hey Rae! I was wondering if you could reply with a step-by-step instruction as to how you dyed your hair? Like, did you put the powder lightener on your whole head or just your scalp? And did you dye your hair right after you put the powder lightener in? Or did you put in the dye with the powder lightener in your hair?
Sorry for so many questions, but the light brown color you had in this video is just what I've been trying to achieve, but I've been failing miserably. Haha :( I had the same problem as you and want to strip the red out of my brown. Thanks in advance!
