TUTORIAL | La Prairie Skin Caviar Powder Foundation and Skin Caviar Loose Powder Review

I have had a 16 year long affair with powder foundation, as that is one of the first three makeup
products I ever tried and wore regularly as a teenager.  As a skin care conscious woman, I
appreciate luxurious complexion products the most.  I never, ever skimp on my foundations and
powders.  La Prairie’s powders are well known for their expert fusion of science and artistry,
enriched with Caviar Extract which is known for its firming and lifting benefits.

I tried La Prairie’s powder foundation a few years ago, when it was still packaged in a
rectangular chrome compact.  I loved the full coverage and it held up well in humidity, but this
reformulation took me by surprise because it looks supremely more natural.  The finish is an
exceptional modern matte and feels nearly weightless even when wearing two layers.  On the
normal day to day, I don’t even wear concealer under it because my redness and pigmentation
is easily covered.

My philosophy with powder foundation is that the center of face should have the most coverage.
I employ a press and roll motion, starting with forehead and moving down the nose and working
each cheek.  For additional coverage, I will occasionally add a second layer to increase
coverage or if I won’t have time to touch up throughout the day.

I always use powder puff to get into hard to reach areas like around the nostrils.  You can use the puff for all over for a full coverage look as well, but I think the new dome-shaped powder foundation brush is perfectly suited for blending this formula onto my dry skin evenly.  Just keep in mind, the higher the coverage desired, the more important it is to carry the color down the neck.

I’m mostly impressed that the Skin Caviar Powder Foundation formula is exceptionally creamy
and glides on flawlessly without accentuating dry patches.  It feels silky and sets to a cashmere-
soft finish as advertised.  It really does minimize my pores, and very few powders can do that.  I
believe the formula really does a wonderful job of retaining water on the skin surface and
creating a lovely sensory feeling upon application.

If you have not tried sculpting and creating a natural contour with a slightly deeper powder
foundation shade, give it a try.  It will be the most subtle but undetectable, totally fuss-free way to
add some dimension to the face.  Apply under apples of the cheeks blending it towards ears.
Again, please don’t forget to trace the jawline and take it down the neck.

The coverage is buildable matte without looking flat or lifeless, so I look fresh faced for eight
hours without having to blot whatsoever.  Plus, I love the sleek cobalt blue compact with two
mirrors, one magnifying and one regular, which helps with application while I’m on the go.

There is an updated Skin Caviar Loose Powder, too, and it is the perfect finishing touch for the
complexion.  It is available in the shades Translucent 0, Translucent 1, and Translucent 2.  I
chose shade 1 but my favorite thing about this product is the elegant packaging.  The toggle
switch to allow product to dispense is sheer genius!  Long gone are the days I open up a loose
powder jar only to spill/waste half of it on my black pants.

I like to buff this ultra-finely milled powder into my skin using the fluffy new Loose Powder Brush.  I rotate my wrist, which does the majority of the work, for the most seamless application and I
will tighten the long bristles with fingertips near the top to apply around the nose and lips.

The best part?  This loose powder comes with a thoughtful complementary portable jar that has an
open/close perforation feature (again, to reduce the mess) and puff, perfect to toss into a purse!  Worth every last penny.

Both of these powders smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimize appearance
of pores, and feel so comfortable on.  No tightness or dryness or irritation. I adore the natural
matte yet luminous finishes, and I can see all the effort, time, and energy that has gone into
redeveloping these two formulas.  La Prairie officially sets my gold standard for both powder
foundation and loose powder.
