In ultra humid and hot conditions like Tokyo and SoCal summers, I highly recommend keeping it light. I didn't pack all that much makeup because experience has taught me that wearing and layering too much would end up in a melted, splotchy mess. Start with a great sweat-proof foundation, like RMK's Creamy Gel or SK-II's Facial Treatment Cream Foundations (both Asia exclusives), and set with a loose powder or powder foundation depending on your coverage needs! Less is more in warm weather! I like to focus on my T-zone and keep it very sheer everywhere else.

Today's long post is dedicated to my acne story. Thanks to the magic of genetics and the influence of my skin care-obsessed grandmother, I never had insecurities about my skin and have almost always maintained clear, healthy skin. I never struggled with acne until last year, when I had a severe bout of cystic acne due to facial waxing. Lesson learned: NEVER EVER wax the face! I had waxed my brows successfully via the Benefit Brow Bar, so I figured I might as well wax off the little peach fuzz around my forehead and cheeks. I couldn't have been more wrong. My skin was fine for the first couple months, but then the cystic acne appeared. I immediately stopped waxing, but I suffered from active break-outs for nearly six months thereafter, wave after wave. As much as I love dramatic eye looks, I rarely wear smoky eyes or even dark eyeshadows these days. I like to keep things natural and simple, especially when the weather is gloomy, so I have found that the easiest way to perk up my look is to focus on brightening the eyes. A little bit of highlighter in the tear duct area and perfectly curled lashes with a hint of elongating eyeliner is really all it takes to add some polish to any outfit.
