Fall Edit | Top 8 Lip Wardrobe Picks + Swatches

Though it does not feel quite like Fall just yet in Southern California, every season (or any reasonable excuse) calls for a new and revamped lip wardrobe. I like to cycle through my lipsticks and lip glosses as often as possible, alternating with colors and experimenting with new textures. So naturally, I wander through Nordstrom every few weeks and swatch my hands off in an attempt to discover the latest and greatest. Though I tend to shop quickly and efficiently, I love being able to take my time and enjoy the process there. Nordstrom also has available some exclusive shades — like Tom Ford Reckless — so keep an eye on the website! In this Fall edit, I will share some old stand-by favorites as well as some fresh releases that I have been patiently waiting to reveal. I hope this will ultimately inspire you to branch out and try something different this season! Check out all the individual details and swatches after the jump xo

Rouge Bunny Rouge Makeup Review, Photos + Feature Look

Rouge Bunny Rouge is a brand that has always intrigued me. Anthropologie offers a limited selection online, but unfortunately, the brand is not widely available in the United States. I, however, have always admired the memorable Rouge Bunny Rouge packaging design, and their pricing is actually quite reasonable! Now that I have tested much of the RBR line-up, I am glad to say that the products are as wonderful as I had hoped. They are definitely worth the time it takes to ship, so if you'd like to learn more, please refer to all individual reviews and swatches after the jump!

Burt's Bees Lip Gloss, Lip Shimmer, Lip Shine, and Tinted Lip Balm Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Over the years, I have found that Burt's Bees lip products are consistently some of the best affordable lip care products. I will be featuring their Lip Color products, which are fabulous budget buys and 100% natural!

Manicure Details: YSL & Zoya [review here]
The LIP SHINE ($7 USD) provides sheer color enriched with the moisturizing benefits of Apricot wax. I love how this dense, plush gloss glides on the lips for a sweet and super shiny finish. I have Pucker, a soft red that will suit any complexion. The Lip Shine was the 2013 Oprah Magazine O-wards Winner, so you know it has to be worth a shot! Try applying it over a Lip Shimmer for a pretty multi-dimensional effect.

The LIP GLOSS ($9 USD) delivers richly pigmented, pearlized color with high impact shine. This formula is enriched with nourishing oils to promote healthy looking lips and is available in 12 shades! Bonus: The shimmer in these Lip Glosses do not irritate my dry, sensitive lips. I did not expect to love it, but Spring Splendor color is the perfect 'My-Lips-But-Better' shade. Layer it over the Tinted Lip Balm for the illusion of a fuller looking pout!

The TINTED LIP BALM ($7 USD) is ideal for when the lips require a hint of color and a whole lot of conditioning. The Shea butter and botanical waxes in these tinted lip balms will help to soothe and smooth your lips. I own one of the new shades called Sweet Violet, a flattering and brightening pink-purple hue, but there are 9 wearable everyday shades for you to choose from! I may go back for the lighter pinks, Blush Orchid and Petunia.

The LIP SHIMMER ($5 USD) is a Burt's Bees classic. This was the first Burt's Bees Lip Color product I ever tried, nearly 6 years ago while I was in college! Oh, the nostalgia.. This slim lip balm provides luminescent, full coverage color and lightweight moisture with an invigorating peppermint flavor. Swatched today is Peony, a metallic pink-mauve, but my favorite is Apricot. P.S. Cocoa, the perennial favorite for medium tan to dark complexions, is finally back in stock.

If you're interested in trying out some natural lip colors, just answer four quick questions from the Lip Shade Finder here to find your perfect shades! The recommendations for both Adventurous and Go-To categories are surprisingly right on-target!

YSL Gloss Volupté Lip Gloss Collection Photos, First Impressions, Swatches [ALL 27 SHADES]

YVES SAINT LAURENT Gloss Volupté.
The Volupté sage continues with this new lip gloss formula from YSL.
Scandalously shiny. Extremely creamy. Sensual to ecstasy. Irresistibly tempting to kiss. Yves Saint Lauren offers lips a totally unique experience with its new sense-stimulating gloss, the latest addition to the Volupté family.

A revolutionary formula, luscious nectar, with an extreme high-shine. Its heavenly light texture, creamy beyond compare, embraces the lips like a sensual "bouche à bouche" thanks to its patented kiss-shaped applicator. Lips are lathered in intense glossy color with golden, iridescent or pure color, outlining an irresistible smile that stirs the desire for more. Indulge in the sensual pleasure of its sumptuous texture, luscious color and dazzling shine.

27 COLORS OF KISSES ($32 USD)
  • N1 Gold
  • N2 Or Saharienne
  • N3 Rose Fusion
  • N4 Fuchsia Vermeil
  • N10 Or Rose
  • N15 Grenade Pepite
  • N19 Rose Orfevre
  • N20 Nude Carat
  • N30 Corail Lingot
  • N49 Terriblement Fuchsia
  • N101 Iridescent
  • N102 Rose Satine

  • N201 Pure
  • N202 Rose Jersey
  • N203 Corail Gandoura
  • N204 Corail Trapeze
  • N205 Rouge Shantung
  • N206 Fouchsia Oran
  • N207 Rouge Velours
  • N208 Fauve
  • N209 Smoking

FIRST IMPRESSIONS  +  SWATCHES

I purchased the delectable 206 Fouchsia Oran at Nordstrom and plan to review it in a couple weeks.  I tried half a dozen Gloss Voluptés directly on my lips since the testers were brand new, but 206 was the most comfortable on my lips and most flattering against my complexion. For now, I will comment that the kiss-shaped applicator is not gimmicky whatsoever and allows for versatile application. I wish more 'Pure' or shimmer-free colors were available, but do try 207 Rouge Velours (another Pure) or the subtly shimmering shades like 202 Rose Jersey, 203 Corail Gandoura, and 205 Rouge Shantung first if you have sensitive lips like I do. I will admit, however, that I was impressed by the iridescents in 30 Corail Lingot, a bronzy peach, and 49 Terriblement Fuchsia, as worn by the model in the campaign ad. I may go back for those since the formula is smoother than I had anticipated it'd be.
TIP: If you are interested in a baby pink, 19 Rose Orfevre is perfection! Not too pale and very pigmented!

209 Smoking was a pleasant surprise since I can still recall an identical black YSL lipgloss from nearly five years ago. Do not be intimated by how bold it may look, since it is sheer and used to add a 'vampy' effect. It looks best over burgundy, plum, and red lipsticks. Now, the 201 Pure gloss is a great alternative for those who love high shine but would rather steer clear of color and shimmer. I was hesitant when I noticed the higher shimmer content of some — particularly the gold top coat — but these Gloss Voluptés a definitely worth try. The Golden Glosses do have more glitz and glam, but I prefer this new gloss formula since it feels more plush and less gritty, not sticky. The Gloss Volupté collection strikes the right balance between sparkling and shiny finishes!
